Notes: Rescued from Hamilton Animal Control, currently in foster care. Initially shy, it only took Olive a couple of days to warm up to her foster family. She’s now enjoying being out of the shelter, and she’s busy warming the hearts of all who meet her.

What’s cuter than kittens??? Not much, we’d say. Lucy has been a wonderful mom to her babies, and Melissa has proven herself a top notch foster mom in taking care of this little kitty family. Mom and babies will be available for adoption when the kittens are big enough, and when mom and babies are deemed healthy and ready to go by our veterinarian. We’ll keep you posted!
Thanks again to those who have donated to us, even though we haven’t received our charitable status yet. Your money goes directly to caring for these animals. Lucy was very ill when we picked her and her babies up from the ‘high kill’ shelter, and they wouldn’t have made it past the next euthanasia day if we hadn’t stepped in. We believe animals like this deserve a second chance, and shouldn’t be discarded just because they happen to become sick. Vet costs can run high, and we couldn’t have helped Lucy and her babies if it weren’t for donations from our supporters. Look at the photos above and you can see exactly what you helped us do! Soggy Spring Update
The day after we took in these newborn kittens, we got a call that a mom and a newborn had been picked up from the same property where the others were found. We assumed that this had to be the newborn’s mother and sibling! Our amazing foster home was kind enough to take on this unexpected surprise, and happily the family was re-united. Mom accepted her other babies back without a problem, and she is quite protective of them now. The foster home is working with her in hopes that she will come to be more friendly once her babies have grown and gone. We’ll keep you posted on her status and let you know when she’s ready to find her forever home.
We had an overwhelming response in reaction to this video we posted last week. A lot of LAS followers stepped up to the plate and offered to do what they could to help. Thanks to this welcomed enthusiasm, we secured a foster home for them in no time and we let the shelter know we’d be coming by to pick up the kitties and mom. As it turned out, we were too late and another rescue group had, well, come to the rescue! No disappointment for us though, we are just happy to see as many animals as possible find a way out of the shelter. As fate would have it, another mom and babies came in the same day the others left. We had a foster home lined up, and we were already scheduled to rescue another cat that day, so it was a no brainer! We headed to the shelter to rescue six little lives.
Olive is a sweet young adult girl who was dumped by her owner in the gazebo outside the SPCA. We are happy to get her out of a cage and give her a second chance.

The babies are about two weeks old and have just started to open their eyes. So cute! Lucy is a very sweet cat, extremely trusting and a great mom. On the drive out from the shelter though, the stench coming from Lucy’s cage was not pretty! It was discovered that she had the runs, and raw, exposed skin at the base of her tail. Lucy was not in good shape. We took the poor girl to the vet and now she is on a round of antibiotics and on her way to a clean bill of health. Her kittens are thriving and we’re happy to report that Lucy smells just fine now!
Because of Lucy’s condition we were unable to take her and her babies to her original foster home. Understandably, they made the decision not to take them in as they have elderly cats in their home who would be highly susceptible to potential viruses in their living environment. We’re so thankful for all our foster homes, and the last thing we would want to do is make their own cats sick. So… there we were with a family of cats in the car and nowhere for them to go. It was our own lovely Melissa who saved the day! Melissa doesn’t have any cats and she is home from touring for a short while, so the stinky family headed to her house. Melissa has done a great job as a new foster mom, getting the cats cleaned up, fed and medicated. And obviously, lots of snuggles.
We still need to find forever homes for all the other animals currently in our care. So please feel free to spread the word about Oliver, Slinky, King Tut, Kyle, Morris, Betty and Oscar . These guys were all rescued from certain death, and they truly deserve permanent loving homes to call their own.
