Notes: Rescued from Hamilton Animal Control, currently in foster care. Oscar is a very sad  case. He was signed over to the shelter by his owners who claimed they ‘couldn’t care for him anymore.’ They left Oscar with a severe skin condition and an issue with his back legs, which drag when he walks. We rescued Oscar from the shelter before he was euthanized and brought him to the vet. The skin problem turned out to be a serious infestation of mites, and his mobility issues were probably caused by a lack of proper nutrition. He may not recover complete use of his back legs, but he doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it at this point. The vet has treated the mites, and Oscar will spend some time healing in his foster home before he is officially made available for adoption.  This guy will truly deserve a good home after all he’s been through.

Interview with Roots Music Canada

In this clip c/o an interview done with Roots Music Canada, Janine Stoll talks about Ladybird Animal Sanctuary, a passion she shares with fellow musicians Melissa McLelland and Lisa Winn. It is a donor-funded organization with a goal of creating a safe haven for dogs and cats who are otherwise abandoned, unwanted, lost and in despair.

Notes: Rescued from Hamilton Animal Control and currently in foster care, Betty is a very sweet bunny. She’s used to cats and calm dogs. She has been spayed. Betty would love to find a forever home soon!

Commercial cages sold at pet stores are far too small for rabbits. Instead, her foster home has set Betty up in an exercise pen so she can have lots of space to move around. Betty still has a commercial cage for temporary use, but she has lots of freedom…just like every bunny should! Betty is litter trained, so there’s no mess to clean up, other than scooping her litter box!

Hermoine has just found a forever home with a loving couple in Toronto. We wish you a happy life full of love, play, naps, and good times with your new family, Hermoine!

Slinky, Hermoine’s “brother”, is still waiting for a loving family to adopt him. Slinky loves to play and cuddle. He’s full of wonder and is sweet as can be. Maybe he’s the perfect companion for you! Check out these guys in action!

Fostering Animals

A kitten fostered by Lisa last year. He has since found his 'forever home.'

Some folks have asked us about how fostering works.

Basically, if you have a spare room, and some spare time to look after an animal until a permanent home is found, that's fostering! We provide all food, supplies and vet care, you provide the space, time and love. 

Until we have our sanctuary building in place, we'll be relying on foster homes to be able to take in animals that would otherwise be euthanized through no fault of their own. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can save! And we'd like to save as many as we can...

The greatest need is for cats and kittens, but all kinds of pets find themselves in need of fostering including dogs, puppies, rabbits, and other small animals. Potential foster homes fill out a fostering application, and decide the type of animal they are comfortable fostering. The LAS matches appropriate animals to that home. The time an animal is in foster care varies depending on the age and health of the animal, and the time it takes to find a forever home.

Happy New Year!

It will certainly be a happy new year for the three cats we’ve been able to rescue thanks to the generous donations we’ve received since we launched our site.

Chance
Chance is a senior kitty who came into Hamilton Animal Control as a stray. His time was up there, and he would have be euthanized if we hadn’t stepped in. He’s now warm and happy in a foster home and just awaiting some vet care before he’ll be made available for adoption. He’s a super friendly guy who purrs a lot! He’ll make a wonderful companion to someone who doesn’t want to deal with the ‘kitten stage’ of cat ownership. He’s happiest sleeping in a soft kitty bed and purring his days away…

Hermoine and Slinky
Also strays at Hamilton Animal Control, Slinky and Hermoine were found separately, but have become fast friends in their foster home. They are both being fixed at the vet this week and will be made available for adoption as soon as they are a hundred percent after their surgeries. Their foster home reports they are both very sweet, and have quickly made friends with everyone in their new surroundings. We’ll post more info about them when they are available for adoption.

So…thanks so much to those who took a chance and donated to a charity without “charitable status.” (Still working on it!) We’re going to keep you on the up and up as to where your money goes as we dive into this adventure with both feet. Thanks for helping us get started. Three lives saved, and many, many to go…
